Jeera Pulao (fragrant Cumin Rice)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, heat the ghee or vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the drained rice to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in the water and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  5. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
