Jeera Pulao (fragrant Cumin Rice)
Jeera Pulao, also known as Fragrant Cumin Rice, is a popular Bangladeshi dish that is simple to make and pairs well with a variety of curries and side dishes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, heat the ghee or vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the drained rice to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Pour in the water and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
