Jiao Hua Niu, also known as Beggar's Beef, is a classic dish from Zhejiang Cuisine known for its rich and savory flavors. This dish features tender beef slices stir-fried with a variety of aromatic spices and vegetables, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Marinade:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the beef slices with the marinade ingredients. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for 30 seconds.
- Add the marinated beef slices and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and green onions. Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Transfer the cooked beef and vegetables to a serving plate and serve hot with steamed rice.
