Jordanian Stuffed Grape Leaves (ورق عنب محشي)
ورق عنب محشي (Jordanian Stuffed Grape Leaves) is a traditional Jordanian dish that is popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. It consists of grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice, herbs, and spices, creating a delicious and satisfying appetizer or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup of short-grain rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the rice, onion, parsley, mint, olive oil, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Trim the stem. Place a small spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly into a cigar shape.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a pot, seam side down, in a single layer. Place lemon slices on top.
- Add enough water to cover the grape leaves. Place a plate on top of the grape leaves to keep them in place during cooking.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the grape leaves cool in the pot before serving.
