Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 cup rice
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups tomato juice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and let it cool. Carefully peel off the leaves without tearing them.
  2. In a bowl, mix the rice, ground beef, onion, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides as you roll.
  4. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a large pot. Pour the tomato juice, chicken broth, and lemon juice over the rolls.
  5. Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour.
  6. Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls hot with a side of yogurt or a fresh salad.
