Kadaifi (assyrian Pistachio And Rosewater Cake)
Kadaifi is a delicious Assyrian dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, pistachios, and rosewater syrup. This sweet and nutty cake is perfect for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 package (16 oz) kadaifi dough (shredded phyllo dough)
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted pistachios, chopped
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup rosewater
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, gently separate the kadaifi dough strands.
- Combine the chopped pistachios with the kadaifi dough.
- Place half of the kadaifi and pistachio mixture in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Drizzle half of the melted butter over the kadaifi and pistachio mixture.
- Repeat with the remaining kadaifi, pistachio mixture, and melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the kadaifi is baking, prepare the syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until the sugar is dissolved, then add the rosewater and lemon juice.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.
- Once the kadaifi is done, pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot cake.
- Allow the kadaifi to cool completely before serving.
