Kadale Sukka (coastal Delight)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of black chickpeas
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup of grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the black chickpeas in water overnight. Drain and rinse the chickpeas before using.
  2. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Next, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
  5. Add the soaked chickpeas, turmeric powder, tamarind paste, and salt. Mix well and cook for 15-20 minutes until the chickpeas are tender.
  6. Finally, add the grated coconut and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot.
