Kadale Sukka (coastal Delight)
Kadale Sukka is a popular dish from the Mangalurean Cuisine, known for its rich and flavorful coastal flavors. This dish is a delightful combination of spices and coconut, making it a perfect accompaniment to steamed rice or rotis.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of black chickpeas
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup of grated coconut
- 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 4-5 dry red chilies
- 1 sprig of curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Soak the black chickpeas in water overnight. Drain and rinse the chickpeas before using.
- In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Next, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- Add the soaked chickpeas, turmeric powder, tamarind paste, and salt. Mix well and cook for 15-20 minutes until the chickpeas are tender.
- Finally, add the grated coconut and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
