Kadalebele Payasa (coconut And Jaggery Sweet)
Kadalebele Payasa is a traditional sweet dish from Mangalurean Cuisine, made with coconut, jaggery, and chana dal. It is a creamy and delicious dessert that is often prepared during festivals and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 cup jaggery
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 10-12 cashew nuts
- 1 tbsp raisins
Instructions
- Wash the chana dal and pressure cook with 2 cups of water until soft.
- In a separate pan, melt the jaggery with 2 cups of water to make a syrup.
- Add the cooked chana dal and grated coconut to the jaggery syrup and mix well.
- Cook on low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add cardamom powder and mix well.
- In a small pan, heat ghee and fry the cashew nuts and raisins until golden. Add this to the payasa and mix well.
- Simmer for another 5 minutes and then remove from heat.
- Serve hot or cold as per preference.
