Kairichi Dal (कैरीची डाळ)
कैरीची डाळ (Kairichi Dal) is a traditional Maharashtrian lentil dish made with raw mango and spices. It is a tangy and flavorful dal that is perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup tuvar dal (pigeon pea lentils)
- 1 small raw mango, peeled and diced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 3 cups water
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Rinse the tuvar dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker, combine the soaked dal, diced raw mango, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
- Once the pressure is released, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When the seeds splutter, add green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Sauté for a minute.
- Add the cooked dal and mango mixture to the pan. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
