Kala Til Murgi (manipuri Style Chicken With Black Sesame)

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan and dry roast the black sesame seeds until fragrant. Grind them to a fine paste with a little water.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onion turns golden brown.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are slightly browned.
  4. Add the chopped tomato, green chilies, and all the spice powders. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Pour in the ground black sesame paste and mix thoroughly. Add salt to taste.
  6. Cover the pan and let the chicken cook in the sesame sauce for about 20-25 minutes on low heat.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
