Kala Til Murgi (manipuri Style Chicken With Black Sesame)
Kala Til Murgi is a traditional dish from Manipuri cuisine, featuring succulent chicken cooked in a rich and aromatic black sesame sauce. This dish is a perfect blend of flavors and textures, making it a popular choice for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast the black sesame seeds until fragrant. Grind them to a fine paste with a little water.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onion turns golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are slightly browned.
- Add the chopped tomato, green chilies, and all the spice powders. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Pour in the ground black sesame paste and mix thoroughly. Add salt to taste.
- Cover the pan and let the chicken cook in the sesame sauce for about 20-25 minutes on low heat.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
