Kane Bajji (stuffed Crab Delight)
Kane Bajji is a popular dish from Mangalurean Cuisine, featuring a delightful combination of stuffed crab and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 4 medium-sized crabs, cleaned and halved
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Oil for cooking
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves, chopped onion, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Mix well.
- Add grated coconut and cook for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
- Stuff the crab halves with the prepared mixture and secure with toothpicks.
- Heat oil in a pan and place the stuffed crabs. Cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the crabs are cooked through and golden brown.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
