Kane Biryani (spicy Prawn Biryani)
Kane Biryani, also known as Spicy Prawn Biryani, is a flavorful and aromatic dish from the Mangalurean Cuisine. This dish is a perfect blend of spices and prawns, creating a mouthwatering experience for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon biryani masala
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons ghee
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat ghee and oil in a large pot. Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Stir in the chopped tomato and cook until it turns mushy.
- Add the prawns, turmeric powder, red chili powder, biryani masala, and garam masala. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Layer the soaked rice over the prawn masala. Pour in the yogurt and sprinkle half of the chopped coriander and mint leaves.
- Pour water over the rice, add salt, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is done.
- Garnish with the remaining coriander and mint leaves. Serve hot.
