Kaorou, also known as Xinjiang Style Beef Skewers, is a popular street food in Xinjiang, China. These flavorful and tender beef skewers are seasoned with a blend of aromatic spices and are perfect for grilling or barbecuing.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (700g) beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 onion, cut into chunks
- 2 bell peppers, cut into chunks
- For the marinade:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt to taste
- For serving:
- Flatbread or naan
- Sliced cucumbers and tomatoes
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, vegetable oil, cumin powder, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt to make the marinade.
- Add the beef cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Thread the marinated beef, onion, and bell peppers onto skewers.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the skewers for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness and the vegetables are tender and slightly charred.
- Serve the kaorou skewers with flatbread or naan, and sliced cucumbers and tomatoes.
