Kari Ayam (spicy Chicken Curry)
Kari Ayam, or Spicy Chicken Curry, is a traditional dish from Batak Cuisine that is rich in flavor and spices. This aromatic and hearty curry is perfect for a comforting meal with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 inches ginger, grated
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned.
- Stir in curry powder, turmeric powder, and chili powder. Mix well.
- Add diced tomatoes and coconut milk. Season with salt.
- Cover and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
