Kartoffel Traum (kartoffel Dream)
Kartoffel Traum, or Kartoffel Dream, is a traditional dish from Brandenburg cuisine that features the humble potato as the star ingredient. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family meal or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 200g bacon, diced
- 200ml heavy cream
- 100g grated cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Boil the potato slices in salted water until just tender, then drain and set aside.
- In a pan, cook the bacon until crispy, then add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Layer half of the cooked potatoes in a greased baking dish, then spread half of the bacon and onion mixture on top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and bacon mixture.
- Pour the heavy cream over the layers and sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
