Kartopu (cheesy Potato Casserole)
Kartopu, also known as Cheesy Potato Casserole, is a traditional dish from Gagauz cuisine that is loved for its creamy and cheesy flavors. This comforting casserole is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the sour cream, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased casserole dish.
- Pour half of the sour cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the grated cheddar cheese on top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, sour cream mixture, and cheddar cheese.
- Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
