Ingredients

  • 2 cups buckwheat groats
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the buckwheat groats under cold water and drain.
  2. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the buckwheat groats to the pot and toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in the water and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the buckwheat is tender.
  5. Fluff the kasha with a fork and serve hot.
