Kashmiri Chicken Curry is a traditional dish from the beautiful region of Kashmir, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This recipe combines tender chicken with a blend of aromatic spices and creamy yogurt to create a delicious and comforting curry.

Kashmiri Chicken Curry (कश्मीरी चिकन करी)

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Whisk the yogurt and tomato puree together, then add it to the pan.
  6. Stir in turmeric, red chili powder, ground fennel seeds, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the curry has thickened.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
