Kashmiri Saag (कश्मीरी साग)
Kashmiri Saag is a traditional dish from the beautiful region of Kashmir, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This vegetarian dish is made with a variety of leafy greens and a blend of spices, making it a nutritious and delicious addition to any meal.
Ingredients
- 500g mixed leafy greens (spinach, mustard greens, collard greens)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the mixed leafy greens thoroughly and chop them.
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add diced tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- Now, add turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the chopped leafy greens and cook until they wilt and the moisture evaporates.
- Simmer for a few minutes, then remove from heat.
- Your Kashmiri Saag is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or naan.
