Kashmiri Saag Chicken (कश्मीरी साग चिकन)

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup mustard greens, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned.
  3. Stir in the pureed tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  4. Add the chopped spinach and mustard greens. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is tender and the greens are cooked.
  5. Sprinkle garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
