Kashmiri Saag Chicken (कश्मीरी साग चिकन)
Kashmiri Saag Chicken is a traditional dish from the beautiful region of Kashmir, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This recipe combines tender chicken with a flavorful spinach and mustard greens sauce, creating a delicious and nutritious meal.
Ingredients
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups spinach, chopped
- 1 cup mustard greens, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned.
- Stir in the pureed tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add the chopped spinach and mustard greens. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is tender and the greens are cooked.
- Sprinkle garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
