Keralan Fish Moilee is a traditional Anglo-Indian dish that originated in the coastal region of Kerala, India. This creamy and mildly spiced fish curry is cooked in coconut milk, making it a perfect blend of flavors from both Indian and Anglo cuisines.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) white fish fillets, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, julienned
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup (240ml) coconut milk
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté the onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic until the onions are soft.
  2. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and black pepper. Sauté for a minute.
  3. Pour in the coconut milk and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add the fish chunks and curry leaves. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
  5. Season with salt and serve hot with steamed rice.
