Khachapuri Delight (ხაჭაპური)
Khachapuri is a traditional Georgian cheese-filled bread that is a staple in Georgian cuisine. This recipe for Khachapuri Delight will guide you through making this delicious and comforting dish at home.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C). Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and roll each part into a circle.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the mozzarella, feta, and eggs. Place a portion of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough circle and fold the edges to create a boat shape, leaving the cheese exposed in the center.
- Brush the exposed cheese and dough edges with melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve the Khachapuri hot, allowing each person to mix the melted cheese and butter with the bread using a fork.
