Khobz
Khobz is a traditional bread from North Africa, particularly popular in Morocco and Algeria. It is a round, flat bread that is perfect for scooping up stews and sauces.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round, flat bread.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook the bread for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer the cooked bread to a plate and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm.
