Khotto is a traditional dish from Mangalurean Cuisine, made with coconut and rice dumplings. These delicious dumplings are a popular breakfast or snack item in the coastal region of Karnataka, India.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- In a pan, bring water to a boil.
- Add grated coconut and salt to the boiling water.
- Gradually add rice flour while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cover and cook the mixture on low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it forms a thick dough-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Take small portions of the dough and shape them into small round dumplings.
- Steam the dumplings in a steamer for 15-20 minutes until they are cooked through.
- Once done, remove from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.
