Kibbeh Batata is a popular Syrian dish made of stuffed potato balls. This recipe features a delicious filling of spiced ground meat and pine nuts, encased in a layer of mashed potatoes and then deep-fried to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and boiled
- 1 cup ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons pine nuts
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Mash the boiled potatoes and let them cool.
- In a pan, sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
- Add the ground meat, pine nuts, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to the pan. Cook until the meat is browned.
- Take a portion of the mashed potatoes and flatten it in your palm. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center and shape the potato around it into a ball.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan and fry the potato balls until golden brown.
- Remove the kibbeh batata from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
