Kifli
Kifli is a traditional Hungarian pastry that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack with a cup of coffee. The flaky, buttery dough is filled with a sweet walnut or fruit filling, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup ground walnuts or fruit preserves
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the sour cream until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal parts, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out one portion of the dough on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Cut the circle into 12 wedges.
- Place a small spoonful of the walnut filling or fruit preserves at the wide end of each wedge. Roll up the dough, starting at the wide end, and place the kifli on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the kifli to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust the cooled kifli with powdered sugar before serving.
