Kingfish Curry, also known as Neymeen Curry, is a popular dish from the Kerala cuisine. This spicy and tangy curry is made with kingfish, coconut milk, and a blend of aromatic spices, making it a delightful treat for seafood lovers.

Ingredients

  • 500g kingfish, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the kingfish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a pan and add fenugreek seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  4. Now, add red chili powder, coriander powder, and curry leaves. Saute for a few minutes.
  5. Pour in the thick coconut milk and bring the curry to a gentle simmer.
  6. Gently add the marinated kingfish pieces and cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
  7. Adjust the seasoning and garnish with fresh curry leaves.
