Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp berbere spice blend
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground lamb, red onion, garlic, ginger, berbere spice blend, cardamom, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
  5. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  6. Serve the kitfo meatballs hot with injera bread or rice.
