Ingredients

  • 1 package shredded phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups sweet cheese, such as ricotta or mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup rose water
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread half of the shredded phyllo dough in a baking dish and drizzle half of the melted butter over it.
  3. In a bowl, mix the sweet cheese with sugar and spread it over the phyllo dough in the baking dish.
  4. Layer the remaining shredded phyllo dough on top and drizzle the remaining melted butter over it.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. While the knafeh is baking, prepare the syrup by boiling water, sugar, and rose water in a saucepan until it thickens slightly.
  7. Once the knafeh is done, pour the syrup over it and sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
