Kolache

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 egg yolks
- Fruit preserves or savory fillings of your choice
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the yeast mixture, butter, and egg yolks to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Make an indentation in the center of each ball and fill it with your choice of fruit preserves or savory fillings.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the kolaches are golden brown.
- Let them cool before serving.
