Kolašin Cabbage Rolls With Sour Cream
Kolašin Cabbage Rolls with Sour Cream is a traditional dish from Montenegro, featuring tender cabbage leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of ground meat and rice, then simmered in a savory tomato sauce and served with a dollop of sour cream.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sour cream for serving
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes, until they are pliable. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, then fold the sides in and roll up the leaf to encase the filling.
- In a large pot, combine the crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Place the cabbage rolls in the pot, seam side down. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the cabbage rolls with a dollop of sour cream on top.
