Kolambi Rassa (malvani Prawn Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a blender, grind the grated coconut, onion, tomato, green chilies, ginger, and garlic to a smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and coriander seeds. Sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground paste and sauté for 5-7 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add the prawns and cook for 5-7 minutes until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
