Kolhapuri Misal (कोल्हापुरी मिसळ)
कोल्हापुरी मिसळ (Kolhapuri Misal) is a spicy and flavorful Maharashtrian dish that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack. It is made with sprouted moth beans, spicy gravy, farsan, and served with pav or bread.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sprouted moth beans
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 cup mixed farsan (spicy savory snack)
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 4 pav (bread rolls)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
- Now add tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add sprouted moth beans and mix well. Add water if required and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Once the misal is ready, serve it in a bowl, garnish with farsan and chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with pav.
