Koli Curry (coorgi Style Chicken Stew)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp Coorgi masala powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  4. Stir in the Coorgi masala powder and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and coconut milk. Add salt to taste.
  6. Simmer the curry for 30-40 minutes until the chicken is tender and the flavors are well combined.
  7. Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
