Koli Curry (coorgi Style Chicken Stew)
Koli Curry is a traditional Coorgi chicken stew that is rich, flavorful, and aromatic. This dish is a staple in Kodava Cuisine and is perfect for a cozy family meal or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Coorgi masala powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the Coorgi masala powder and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the tomato puree and coconut milk. Add salt to taste.
- Simmer the curry for 30-40 minutes until the chicken is tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
