Koli Curry (kodava Style Chicken Stew)
Koli Curry is a traditional chicken stew from the Kodava Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This dish is a staple in Kodava households and is often prepared for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2-3 sprigs of curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Next, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add the grated coconut and water. Mix well and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Sprinkle garam masala and curry leaves, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Once the chicken is cooked through and the curry has thickened, remove from heat.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or traditional Kodava bread.
