Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup tamarind pulp
  • 1/4 cup jaggery or sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the prawns and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree, tamarind pulp, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add jaggery or sugar to balance the tanginess of the tamarind.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or bread.
