Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, grated
- 1/2 cup cooked rice
- 1/4 cup yellow split peas, soaked
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, grated onion, cooked rice, soaked yellow split peas, chopped parsley, chopped mint, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into large meatballs, about the size of a tennis ball.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the meatballs, cover the pot, and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Serve the Koofteh Tabrizi hot with rice or bread.
