Korean-inspired General Tso's Fish (조선식 제너럴 토스 어)
This Korean-inspired General Tso's Fish recipe puts a delicious twist on the classic Chinese dish. The crispy fish is coated in a sweet and tangy sauce, creating a perfect balance of flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 4 green onions, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, coat the fish pieces with cornstarch, then dip them in the beaten eggs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the fish in batches until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the green onions and garlic until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Toss the crispy fish in the sauce until well coated. Serve hot.
