Kori Gassi (mangalorean Chicken Ghee Roast)
Kori Gassi, also known as Mangalorean Chicken Ghee Roast, is a traditional dish from the coastal region of Karnataka, India. This spicy and flavorful chicken curry is a popular dish in Mangalorean cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 3 onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 10-12 dried red chilies
- 1-inch ginger, chopped
- 6-8 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a pan, dry roast the grated coconut, dried red chilies, cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic until fragrant. Allow it to cool and then grind it into a fine paste.
- Heat ghee in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces and turmeric powder. Cook until the chicken is browned.
- Pour in the ground masala paste and tamarind paste. Add salt to taste and simmer until the chicken is cooked through and the curry thickens.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
