Kori Gassi, also known as Mangalorean Chicken Ghee Roast, is a traditional dish from the coastal region of Karnataka, India. This spicy and flavorful chicken curry is a popular dish in Mangalorean cuisine.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 3 onions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 10-12 dried red chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, chopped
  • 6-8 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pan, dry roast the grated coconut, dried red chilies, cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic until fragrant. Allow it to cool and then grind it into a fine paste.
  2. Heat ghee in a large pot and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and turmeric powder. Cook until the chicken is browned.
  4. Pour in the ground masala paste and tamarind paste. Add salt to taste and simmer until the chicken is cooked through and the curry thickens.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
