Kori Gassi (spicy Chicken Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 6-8 dried red chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, chopped
  • 6-8 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp tamarind paste
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions until golden brown.
  2. Add tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
  3. In a separate pan, dry roast grated coconut, red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic until fragrant.
  4. Grind the roasted ingredients into a fine paste using a little water.
  5. Add the ground paste to the onions and tomatoes. Cook for a few minutes.
  6. Add turmeric powder, tamarind paste, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add the chicken pieces and enough water to cover them. Cook until the chicken is tender and the curry thickens.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
