Kori Gassi (spicy Chicken Curry)
Kori Gassi is a popular spicy chicken curry from the Mangalurean Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This dish is a perfect blend of spicy, tangy, and creamy, making it a favorite among curry lovers.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 6-8 dried red chilies
- 1-inch ginger, chopped
- 6-8 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp tamarind paste
- 2-3 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions until golden brown.
- Add tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- In a separate pan, dry roast grated coconut, red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic until fragrant.
- Grind the roasted ingredients into a fine paste using a little water.
- Add the ground paste to the onions and tomatoes. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, tamarind paste, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the chicken pieces and enough water to cover them. Cook until the chicken is tender and the curry thickens.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
