Kori Pulimunchi (mangalorean Chicken Pulimunchi)
Kori Pulimunchi is a traditional and flavorful chicken curry from the Dakshina Karnataka Cuisine, specifically the Mangalorean region. The dish is known for its rich and tangy flavors, making it a popular choice for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 4-5 dry red chilies
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- 1-inch ginger
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
- Grind together grated coconut, tamarind paste, coriander powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, garlic, and ginger to a fine paste.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves and dry red chilies.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ground masala paste and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add the marinated chicken pieces and mix well. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until the chicken is tender and the curry reaches desired consistency.
- Adjust salt and tanginess as per taste.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
