Kori Pulimunchi (mangalorean Chicken Pulimunchi)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1-inch ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Grind together grated coconut, tamarind paste, coriander powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, garlic, and ginger to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves and dry red chilies.
  4. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  5. Add the ground masala paste and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add the marinated chicken pieces and mix well. Cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until the chicken is tender and the curry reaches desired consistency.
  8. Adjust salt and tanginess as per taste.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
