Kosovan Cherry Strudel (Strudel me Kokërra Vishnje)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cherries, pitted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 6 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the cherries, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
  5. Spread the cherry filling along one edge of the phyllo stack and roll it up into a log.
  6. Place the strudel on a baking sheet and brush with melted butter.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
