Kosovan Sweet Cheese Pie (Byrek me Djathë të ëmbël)
Byrek me Djathë të ëmbël is a traditional Kosovan dessert that combines sweet cheese and flaky pastry for a delicious treat.
Ingredients
- 500g phyllo dough
- 250g sweet cheese, crumbled
- 100g sugar
- 100g unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the sweet cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Brush the top with the remaining melted butter.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
