Kozhi Chettinadu (spiced Chicken Chettinad)
Kozhi Chettinadu, also known as Spiced Chicken Chettinad, is a classic dish from the Malaysian Indian cuisine. It is a flavorful and aromatic chicken dish that is sure to tantalize your taste buds with its blend of spices and rich gravy.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 cup cashew nuts
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tbsp fennel seeds
- 1 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp black peppercorns
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tbsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp garam masala
- 1/4 cup oil
- Fresh curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Dry roast fennel seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and black peppercorns. Grind them to a fine powder.
- Grind grated coconut and cashew nuts to a smooth paste.
- Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions, and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the ground spice powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are sealed and browned.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Add the coconut-cashew paste, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh curry leaves and serve hot.
