Kozhi Kurma (spiced Chicken Korma)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 2-3 cardamom pods
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
  5. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  6. Whisk yogurt and coconut milk together, then add it to the chicken. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
