Kozhi Kurma (spiced Chicken Korma)
Kozhi Kurma is a delicious spiced chicken korma that is a popular dish in Malaysian Indian cuisine. It is made with a rich and aromatic gravy, flavored with a blend of spices and coconut milk, creating a creamy and flavorful curry.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 4-5 cloves
- 2-3 cardamom pods
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Whisk yogurt and coconut milk together, then add it to the chicken. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
