Kroket Croquettes
Kroket Croquettes are a popular Dutch snack made with a creamy filling of meat, vegetables, and spices, coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried to crispy perfection.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked meat (beef, chicken, or veal), finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cups beef or chicken broth
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a saucepan, sauté the onion in butter until translucent.
- Add the flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually add the broth and milk, stirring until smooth and thickened.
- Add the meat, vegetables, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, then let the mixture cool.
- Shape the mixture into croquettes, dip each in beaten egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the croquettes in batches for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
