Ingredients
- 1 pound spätzle noodles
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup grated Emmental cheese
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- Butter for toasting the buns
Instructions
- Boil the spätzle noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the cooked spätzle to the skillet with the caramelized onions.
- Stir in the grated Emmental and Gruyère cheeses, and pour in the heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the cheese is melted and the spätzle is coated in a creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- While the spätzle mixture is still warm, form it into 4 patties, similar in size to the burger buns.
- Toast the burger buns with a little butter in a separate skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble the Käsespätzle burgers by placing a spätzle patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with the other half of the bun.
