Kuah Kepiting (coconut Milk Crab Curry)
Kuah Kepiting is a delicious crab curry dish from the Manado cuisine of Indonesia. This flavorful dish is made with fresh crab cooked in a rich and creamy coconut milk-based curry sauce, infused with aromatic spices and herbs.
Ingredients
- 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 4 shallots, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, sliced
- 1 lemongrass stalk, bruised
- 3 kaffir lime leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- Salt to taste
- Sugar to taste
- Water
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Sauté the shallots, garlic, and red chilies until fragrant.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. Stir well to combine.
- Pour in the coconut milk and add the tamarind paste. Season with salt and sugar to taste.
- Add the crab pieces to the pot and pour in enough water to cover the crab. Simmer for 20-30 minutes until the crab is cooked and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve the Kuah Kepiting hot with steamed rice.
