Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into small meatballs.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes, broth, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Serve the kufta hot, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
