Kulau (coconut And Taro Panna Cotta)
Kulau is a traditional Palauan dessert that combines the creamy texture of panna cotta with the tropical flavors of coconut and taro. This delightful treat is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth while experiencing the unique flavors of Palauan cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 cup taro, peeled and diced
- 1 can (13.5 oz) coconut milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp unflavored gelatin
- 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the taro, coconut milk, and sugar. Cook over medium heat until the taro is tender, about 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom.
- Once bloomed, heat the gelatin mixture in the microwave for 15 seconds or until fully dissolved.
- Stir the gelatin mixture into the taro and coconut mixture until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into ramekins or molds and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.
- To serve, unmold the panna cotta onto plates and garnish with shredded coconut or taro chips if desired.
