Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as snapper or grouper
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 8 cups fish or vegetable broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 cup bok choy, chopped
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the fish fillets, egg, cornstarch, green onions, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until the mixture becomes a smooth paste.
- Using wet hands, form the fish paste into small balls and set aside.
- In a large pot, bring the fish or vegetable broth to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce to the broth. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- Gently drop the fish balls into the broth and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
- Add the bok choy to the soup and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the greens are tender.
- Serve the Kulau hot over cooked rice.
